I’ll admit it: this year I’ve not been great at shouting about our monthly radio show/podcast on Noods Radio. There have been some great shows – though I would say that – and all have been put together with due care and attention, I’ve just been rubbish at posting stories about them on this website.
The time has come, then, to recap what you can hear on each episode – complete with embedded streams and track listings. So here it is, season four (so far).
S4:E1 (FIRST BROADCAST 27/01/24)
Starting the year with a bang, this episode features a blend of ear-catching new material (See Fakear’s ethno-D&B workout ‘Training Lesson’, AceMo & DJ Swish’s dancefloor hammering ‘Expert Level’ and Paul Woolford mangling and reworking the KLF’s ‘What Time Is Love’), classic cuts, forgotten gems, and a smattering of forthcoming releases. There’s also chat about new music books, compilations and LPs. Oh, and what may be the first appearance of a JTF show favourite – the Bedmo Disco remix of Zenana’s ‘Witches’, which I did alongside Gareth Morgan last year. That will be released by Rush Hour on September 13th – you can find out more about the story behind the record here.

S4:E2 w/ TARA HILL (FIRST BROADCAST 29/02/23)
In this episode, I was joined for the first time by semi-regular contributor Tara Hill – a Swiss journalist, researcher, author, DJ and academic who I first met at DC23, the academic conference run by the team behind the long-running DanceCult journal. Tara joined me to give her reflections on this year’s edition of Berlin’s annual CTM festival and the various issues surrounding it (famously, it was part of a wider cultural boycott by European artists of events sponsored by, or with links to, the Israeli government).
Track listing
Len Leise – El Modello (Tolouse Low Trax Remix) / Jurango – Big Saver / SY Rockers – Doom Dub / Craven Faults – Eller Ghyll (President Bongo Remix) / Monolake – Tangent II / Sisha Devi – Imortelle / Shiny Objects – Lights Down (Anthony Mansfield Remix) / Dickie Landry – Hang The Rich (JD Twitch Edit) / Pet Shop Boys – Rent (Francois Kevorkian Dub)
S4:E3 (FIRST BROADCAST 27/03/24)
After what seemed like months of endless darkness and rain, the weather started behaving and spring appeared. This inspired me to lay down a show full of musical warmth and colour, moving between Balearic treats, mid-tempo chuggers, revivalist boogie dubs, dub disco and 21st century proto-house nostalgia.
Tracklisting
Lars Bartkuhn – First Kalimba / ONEGRAM – A.E.O (7” Edit) / Tony McKenzie – Ah Chica (Les Edits de Golem Version) / Gina X – No G.D.M (Joakim’s Supa Edit) / Guruku featuring Rojaia – What It Takes (Bonus Beats) / Behling & Simpson – Faith Edit / Residents Balearicos – Mojade (Das Komplex Remix) / The Whole Truth – Believe (Club Mix by Mark Seven) / Alma Negra – Madrugada (Dub) / Mind Fair presents Charm – With You (An Eric Dunks Duncan Remix) / Zenana – Witches (Bedmo Disco’s Spell of Love) / Bedmo Disco – Dub & Pride (Re-Dubbed) / Bel – Ready To Die (Mudd’s Extended Mix – Michiban Edit)
S4:E4 w/ LILA HART IN THE MIX (FIRST BROADCAST 24/04/24)
In the weeks leading up to the broadcast of this episode, Tara Hill returned to the UK. While she was on our shores, Tara popped over to Bristol for a visit and, while here, laid down a near hour-long guest mix under her Lila Hart alias. Full of twisted European techno, minimal, tech-house and micro-house, it was the first of hopefully many guest mixes on the show from Tara and others.
Tracklisting
Chateau Flight – Theatre de Verdure (excerpt) / Jlin – Auset / Ness – The Mist in Cherni Vrah / Luigi Tozzi – Chemosynthesis (Claudio PRC Remix) / Nthn – It Never Ends / Rodhad – Teryl / Giorgio Gigli – Theory of Radical Structures / Luke Hess – 2 Prophets / Prince of Denmark – Once With a Smile / Silent Servant – Untitled / Planetary Assault Systems – X To An X / Svreca – How To Become Nothing / Theo Parrish – Solitary Flight / Depeche Mode – The Sinner In Me (Ricardo Villalobos White Label Remix) / Soul Capsule – Beauty and the Beast / Minilogue – Windmaker
S4E5 (FIRST BROADCAST 22/05/24)
I kicked off this show with a fine piece of emotionally stirring ambient music from Channel Islander Flexagon – a producer I was introduced to by my good friend Claire during my first visit to Guernsey earlier the same month. That provided a platform for much that followed – a mixture of laidback, sun-kissed fare, choice reissues, forgotten classics (see Fred Everything’s vintage rework of Atjazz’s ‘It’s Complete’) and new ‘must check’ releases (Fred Everything, Jamie Paton remixing his collaborative Metal project). In honour of an essay I’d just written for the Quietus, I also dropped one of my favourite remixes of the Pet Shop Boys.
Track listing
Flexagon – Fort Suamarez: MP2 / Holger Czukay – My Persian Love (Remix) / Pahua – Flor de Jazmin (John Beltran Remix) / Barbara Hernandez – All Nite Tonight (Version) / Manjeet Kondal – Ishkaan De Manle (Mr Scruff Remix) / Atjazz – It’s Complete (Fred’s Complete Vocal) / Fred Everything featuring Sapele – A Long Time Coming / Metal – Dislocation Climb (Jamie Paton Dubwise) / Pet Shop Boys – Young Offender (Jam & Spoon Trip-O-Matic Fairytale Mix)
S4:E6 (FIRST BROADCAST 24/07/24)
I was feeling quite frisky and energetic when I started thinking about the content of this show. So, after briefly reflecting on the brilliance of the Watching Trees festival in June – more about that, with accompanying ambient mix, here – I laid down a non-stop mix touching on deep house, techno, UK bass, revivalist bleep & bass and more. It features some classics and slept-on 90s jams, but even more new and (then) forthcoming music.
Tracklisting
Eleven Pond – Watching Trees (Matt Anniss Ambient Edit) / Baba Stiltz – Stockholm (Baba Stiltz Remix) / Jacksonville – Ski Jacket ’87 / Orbital – Midnight (Sasha Remix) / Man Power – Where R U? / Moby – Hymn (Upriver) / Enzo Elia – Inganno Figurativo / Dennis Ferrer – A Drumstick and a Light Fitting (Retouch) / Lance Di Sardi – Higher (Extended Space Dub) / K-Lone – Bake Root / Skudge – Tryptic (Amarou Remix) / Reflex Blue – Dracula’s MPC / SoYo Dubs – Mighty / Moody Boys – Shango Dance To The Thunder God
