It has been a while, but I’ve finally got round to recording a third instalment in the Join The Future mix series. While the first two joined the dots between bleep & bass and later waves of UK bass culture, this one is a little different. I’ve been thinking for a while that I should raid the nu-disco, dub disco and space disco sections of the collections, as I tended to do more for Bedmo Disco sets and those associated with my long-running best before: party, so I did just that.

Like many of my mixes these days, heading into the record room at JTF HQ and recording it was a spontaneous decision. Just over two and a half hours long, it’s a proper Friday night throwdown aimed at the dancefloor – albeit one that never tops 123 BPM (and as you’ll hear, it takes a while to get there). It kind of goes in waves, with a few surprise twists and turns, before a deeper and more blissed out conclusion. I think it’s got a good mix of material – there are some genuinely overlooked and slept-on gems in there as well as recent and new material, and the odd JTF edit. I got a bit carried away and forgot to include any of our Bedmo Disco edits and productions (even the Zenana remix that came out on Rush Hour last year). For the nerds, it was laid to tape (well, the digital recorder) in one continuous take via 2 x XDJ700s, 2 x Vestax PDX2000s and my much-loved (and much-used) Ecler Nuo 2.0 mixer.
