On Saturday 18th April 2026, I played at Cosies in Bristol as the headline guest at a fundraising party thrown by the West of England Combined Authority Space Agency crew, a bunch of old heads with notoriously good record collections and a history of putting on fine shindigs in basement spaces.
The party they put on was themed around ‘Bass, Bleeps and Breaks’. Because of this, I was asked to fit in with this brief and in typical fashion went in quite deep. Surprisingly, it was the first bleep-focused set I’d done in public for a while – possibly since going back to back with the legendary (and sorely missed) JD Twitch around the publication of the first edition of Join The Future.
Of course, I was aware of the demands of the dancefloor, so prepared and delivered a set that joined the dots between new and old records, classics and obscurities, and non-bleep cuts that in some way shared some sonic ingredients, influences or characteristics. On the night, I finished with the ultimate bleep & bass ‘last tune’, the ‘Leeds Warehouse Mix’ of the LFO’s peerless ‘LFO’ (the story behind that record is not only told within the book, but also within a Bleepography article on this very website).
Afterwards, the WECASA crew asked if I’d recorded the saet, as they loved what I played and the flow of it. I hadn’t, but thought it was about time we dropped another instalment of the Join The Future mix series. So, a few days ago, a popped into the record room and recorded a mix inspired by the set.
What you will hear is not exactly the same – I added a trio of records at the start and one later on, removing just one cut from the final stages of the mix – but it is very similar. Hopefully, it captures some of the energy and excitement of the set itself, which was performed to a rammed and enthusiastic dancefloor. There are one or two cuts you may recognise from previous JTF mixes – they are all dancefloor bangers after all – but loads you won’t recognise. Expect raw bleep & bass, Detroit-influenced techno, breaks, acid, dubby house and techno, and a handful of tried-and-tested all-time anthems.
I hope you enjoy it. I’ve embedded the mix below. Underneath that you can find a full tracklisting.
